The self-proclaimed Robotics enthusiast

One of Potato's more quiet companies, we speak to Iko's Advanced Software Engineer- Srinath, as he shares with us more about what they've been up to!

The self-proclaimed Robotics enthusiast

He games, he cooks, he’s a proud Robotics Enthusiast. This week on #PotatoSpotlight, Srinath gives a little peek into what he does as an Advanced Software Engineer at IKO.

(Spoiler alert: IKO is helping automate the detection of skin cancer — how cool is that!)

Read on as Srinath shares more about his other passion projects and more!

1. Tell us a little about yourself!

I am an avid gamer who can never put down a game of adventure. I have basically played all the Assassin’s Creed games religiously (except the latest) as it combines history and adventure. I also play Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege!

Other than gaming, I love cooking on weekends, where I whip up dishes from various cuisines.

2. How would you define yourself in 3 words?

Passionate, Relaxed and Ambitious

3. You’ve worked at IKO for a few years now. What has been/is your favourite part of working at IKO?

I love the freedom to experiment at IKO. The allowance to make mistakes is something I feel has helped mould me into a better developer and bettered my work ethic. I also love the close-knit team where anything can be shared with my colleagues.

4. Share with us your responsibilities as an embedded computer vision developer.

IKO is helping automate the detection of skin cancer. My current responsibility is to develop an automatic camera tracking system to help doctors navigate across the patient while imaging them.

5. What is the most exciting part of your job?

The most exciting part, I would say is developing new algorithms (new for me). I love experimenting with something out of the ordinary. Implementing algorithms and seeing results excite me the most.

6. You call yourself a ‘Robotics Enthusiast’. When and how did you first discover your passion for robotics?

My passion for robotics started when I started dismantling electronic devices around my house as a child. My passion deepened when I joined my undergraduate robotics research club which dealt primarily with drones (UAVs). Creating a thinking machine from scratch brings me joy and since then I have followed the path of robotics.

7. Having been to so many places, which country has been your favourite? Share with us some of your memorable trips!

Even though I have lived in a few countries, I think Singapore is my favourite. As a person that loves seeing greenery, I truly missed it when living in Dubai. This was when I realised Singapore is the place to be.

Well, to visit I would say Hampi, in Karnataka, India is my favourite place.  Being an avid lover of history, there are immeasurable ruins to visit here. There is also a sense of serenity and calmness that I haven't experienced in other places.

8. What do you hope to achieve with IKO this year?

I hope to deploy my tracking algorithm and finish our clinical trials this year with IKO.

9. (Just for fun!) If you had 3 days of uninterrupted rest, what would those 3 days look like for you?

I would either work on a small robotics project or dust off my PS4 and finish the latest Assasin’s Creed game I have been putting off for a long time.
